GBC Continuing Education – Customized Workforce and Professional Development Training for Business, Industry, and Non-Profits
Great Basin College Continuing Education is pleased to offer training in current business topics such as Microsoft Office Computer Applications: Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Access, and Visual Basic. Classes can be offered on-site at your location or in state of the art facilities on the various GBC campuses. Participants are issued a certificate of completion showing the topic, date of training, and total
number of hours attended.
Who is this for?
Open for all employers. Course content, days, times, and locations are customized for each business’s specific needs.
Date/Time
Customizable and ongoing as needed. Workshops and courses can be half- day, full-day, bi-weekly, etc.
Fees
Vary according to number of hours, topic, materials required, location, credit or non-credit, and instructor.

Nevadaworks Healthcare Career Training
For individuals who qualify as low-income, Nevadaworks has contracted with Great Basin College to offer career training in select healthcare fields: Medical Coding and Billing, Medical Transcription, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Pharmacy Technician, and Medical Administrative Assistant.
Who is this for?
Individual participants must qualify as low-income and must demonstrate aptitude and interest in healthcare careers. Employers for Pharmacy Technicians will include retail pharmacies as well as hospitals and clinics with on-site pharmacies. Employers for CNAs will include long-term care facilities, hospitals, home-health care entities. Employers for the medical coding/billing, medical transcription, and medical administrative assistant may include doctor’s offices, dental offices, chiropractors, physical therapy offices, clinics, long-term care facilities, and hospitals.

Classes begin in November 2011 and January 2012.
Fees
This career training program is funded by Nevadaworks for individuals who qualify as low-income. Nevadadworks is an equal opportunity program. Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to individuals with disabilities.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Training
Individuals interested in any of the CTE programs; Welding, Diesel, Electrical, Millwright and Instrumentation Technology should contact Bret Murphy at bretm@gwmail.gbcnv.edu or 775 753-2217. These programs are offered as a One Year Certificate or an Associate of Applied Science Degree and can be completed in 48 weeks.
Who is this for?
Anyone interested in entering into a technical career, and is willing to devote 48 weeks of time to complete the program.
Date/Time
GBC’s Technical programs start the middle of August and end the first week of June.

Tech Prep
Tech Prep offers a variety of professional development activities for CTE high school and college instructors and students, which incorporate business and industry involvement.
A few Tech Prep student activities:
- Career Launch – a half hour lunchtime activity offered by interactive video to expose students to degree programs at GBC and related careers. First Thursday of every month.
- Mining Rocks! – high school students get exposed to careers available in mining and a full tour of an active mine site. Offered in Fall and Spring semester. Co-sponsored by Barrick and Newmont
Tech Prep gives students free college credit for Career and Technical Education classes that they are taking in high school. (Agriculture, Business, Welding, Automotive, Health Science, Computer Technology, Drafting) credits can count towards degree programs as required courses, general education courses, or elective credits. Credits can be transferred to any Community College in the Nevada System of Higher Education. These credits are subject to approval for in-state and out-of-state universities. GBC offers Tech Prep credit to 19 high schools within the GBC service area.
Who is this for?
Businesses that would like to partner with GBC Tech Prep to participate in career exploration activities, as well as high school students, high school and college CTE instructors.
